Meet Alikanjera Bwakea, a determined and resilient young woman who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering in 2023. Her journey was filled with challenges, but her determined spirit and dedication led her to triumph against all odds.

Before receiving the FMF scholarship, Alikanjera and her twin sister faced several challenges that posed a threat to their education. After the loss of their father, the financial strain fell heavily on their mother, who was already dealing with health issues. The path to continuing their education seemed nearly impossible due to limited resources, but Alikanjera was determined to pursue her dreams, She applied to the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and started her first year but few months later her dream seemed impossible  again she was facing challenges in paying her tuition fees. After she  met the university’s dean of students who recognized her potential and encouraged her to continue attending classes, even though her tuition  fee had not been paid.

In her second semester a turning point came when she was selected for the FMF full funded scholarship program that covered her tuition fees, supplies, meals, accommodation, and all other essentials. This life-changing opportunity allowed her to stay focused on her studies without the financial worries that once seemed impossible to overcome.

After four years of her studies she graduated with the first honor GPA and  Today, she works as a mining engineer at ESAP Mining Services, based at the Buckreef Gold Mine site in Geita. She is  proud to be an alumna of the FMF Scholarship program and to have overcome the challenges that once threatened to derail her education.

Reflecting on her journey, Alikanjera shares, “I am deeply grateful to FMF, Diamonds Do Good, and all the partners who helped make my dream a reality. This experience has taught me the power of perseverance, and I hope my story inspires others to stay committed to their goals, no matter the challenges.”
